IACHR AMENDS RULES OF PROCEDURE DURING ITS 132nd SESSIONS

 

Washington, August 5, 2008 — The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) approved a reform of its Rules of Procedure during its 132nd period of sessions, which took place July 17-25, 2008, at IACHR headquarters in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the reform is to regulate the work of the Commission’s Rapporteurships.

 

During the same period of sessions, the IACHR also designated Colombian attorney Catalina Botero Marino as Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression, a post she will assume on October 13, 2008.

 

The Inter-American Commission also approved 39 reports on cases during the sessions. Of these, 19 were reports on admissibility, 3 on inadmissibility, 8 on the merits, and 9 on decisions to publish reports on the merits. The next IACHR sessions will take place from October 16-31, 2008. The deadline for requesting hearings and meetings is August 27, 2008.
