Today, at the headquarters of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), in Washington, D.C., the Government of the United States of America made a voluntary financial contribution to the IACHR for its activities.

During a brief ceremony at the IACHR, the United States Ambassador to the OAS, Luis Lauredo, expressed his Government’s commitment to supporting IACHR activities. The donation of US$640,000 is intended to fund part of the activities of the IACHR and of the Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression. This contribution is added to others made by the Governments of Argentina, Denmark, Mexico, Spain, and Sweden.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Ambassador Jorge Taiana, expressed his appreciation for the valuable contribution, which will help to strengthen the defense of human rights in the Americas.
