PRESS RELEASE

Nº 15/00

INAUGURATION OF THE REMODELING
 OF THE IACHR LIBRARY

In the presence of the Permanent Observer of Spain to the Organization of American States, Ambassador Eduardo Gutiérrez Sáenz de Buruaga, and the members of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), a function was held today to inaugurate the remodeling of the Rómulo Gallegos Library.  The Library is a source of specialized information that the IACHR makes available free of charge to the human rights community in the Americas.

The remodeling of the Library and the renovation of its bibliographical inventory have been made possible thanks to the generous support of the Government of Spain through the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation.

As part of its efforts to play a more prominent role in the inter-American system, the Government of Spain has been making financial assistance available to IACHR activities since 1999. This support constitutes an acknowledgement of the important part played by the Commission in the protection of human rights and the development of democracy in the Americas.

In expressing thanks to the Government of Spain for its valuable cooperation, the Chairman of the IACHR, Dr. Helio Bicudo, said that its support “symbolized Spain’s commitment to the well-being of men and women in the Americas and affirmed its growing presence in the development of the Hemisphere.”
